US fresh sanction against Iran opposed


New Delhi, Oct 26: The Polit Bureau of the CPI (M) has expressed strong opposition to the fresh round of sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran.

The party, in a press statement issued here today, said these unilateral sanctions are aimed at Iran's financial system and economy and come in the wake of continuing threats of military action against the country.

The sanctions should not find acceptance in the international community and the UPA Government must break its silence and speak out against the US stance towards Iran, the statement said.

The Government should clearly state that such sanctions would not be applied by India. This is necessary as in the recent period, the United States sought to get Indian companies to fall in line to comply with its sanctions and prohibit trade and economic ties with Iran, the statement added.
