CPI wants Nanavati Com. to take cognizance of riots expose

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) The CPI has demanded that the Nanavati Commission take suo motu cognizance of the self-confessed statements by rioters about their ''exploits'' during Gujarat riots as revealed by the Tehelka sting operation.

The CPI said the expose only substantiates what was already known to the people in the country.

''Comparing themselves with Rana Pratap and their blood lust with Haldighati is an insult to the glorious memory of the historical personality and his battle,'' the party said in a statement.

Tehelka has also proved the direct complicity of Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the police and administration in the state-sponsored killings of members belonging to the minority community, the party said.

This also sharply brings out the failure of the Union Home Ministry in exposing and taking action against such crimes which was successfully done by a private TV channel, the statement added.
