Copper heavy, copper wire bars rise

Mumbai, Oct 26 (UNI) Prices of copper heavy and copper wire bars in ferrous and non ferrous metals ruled better today on firm advice from London Metal Exchange (LME), while copper and aluminium prices rose on fresh industrial users demand, traders at the Bombay Metal Exchange (BME) said.

In the ferrous category (per quintal), copper heavy and copper utensils rose by Rs 200 each on lack of in heavy offers by stockists, induced by encouraging advice from Kolkata, Delhi and other centres.

In the non-ferrous segment (per quintal), copper wire bars went up by Rs 100 on improved industrial users demand in face of lesser arrivals of stocks from upcountry centres.

However, zinc slab, aluminium ingots and lead ingots were unchanged on lack of demand from local dealers due to weak advice from LME along with Kolkata, Delhi and other centres.

Similarly, nickel cathode and tin slab remained unchanged owing to larger stock supplies and thin demand.

Following are the spot metal prices per quintal: Ferrous metals - Copper heavy: Rs 35,400, Copper utensils: Rs 32,200, Brass utensils: Rs 25,500, Brass cuttings: Rs 26,700 and Aluminium utensils: Rs 10,700.

Non-ferrous metals - Copper wire bars: Rs 38,700, Aluminium ingots: Rs 12,400, Zinc slab: Rs 16,000, Lead ingots: Rs 14,000, Tin slab: Rs 790 per kg and Nickel cathode: Rs 1,550 per kg.

Russia to launch 5 ballistic missiles by year-end : Commander

Moscow, Oct 26 (UNI) Russia's Strategic Missile Forces (SMF) will launch five inter-continental ballistic missiles (ICBM) by the year end. ''By the end of this year, we will test-launch five missiles, including a RS-18 (SS-19 Stiletto), a RS-12M (SS-25 Sickle), a missile interceptor and a heavy RS-20 (SS-18 Satan),'' SMF commander Gen Nikolai Solovtsov told RIA Novosti news agency today. He said seven ICBM launches had been conducted so far in 2007 to test the performance of a new RS-24.....

IAEA cannot interrogate scientist Abdul Khan : Musharraf

Islamabad, Oct 26 (UNI) Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf said the government would not allow any foreign agency or the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to interrogate the nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan. While talking to MNAs belonging to the ruling party and its allies at the Pakistan Prime Minister House last night, he said, ''If anyone has questions, he should send us and we will conduct the probe ourselves.''
