Congress demands ban on BJP and any "communal" organisation

Patna, Oct 26 (UNI) The Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee(BPCC) today demanded ban on the BJP and any "communal" organisation following diclosure of Tehelka about their involvement in 2002 communal riot in Gujarat.

In a release here, chief spokesman of BPCC Prem Chandra Mishra said the sting operation, carried out by tehelka.com, had proved the charges, levelled against leaders of the BJP and any "communal" organisation on their involvement in the communal riot, which erupted after the Godhra incident in Gujarat.

'' It is appalling to note that BJP leaders, including Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, has not only instigated for engineering communal riot but they also protected the accused through government machinaries and other means, '' Mr Mishra remarked.

BJP MLA Haresh Bhatt and some leaders of the VHP had accepted their involvement in the riot before camera in the sting operation and action should be initiated against them after institution of criminal cases, he demanded.

If Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar wanted to maintain his secular credential, he should immediately sever relation with the BJP and remove all its leaders from his Cabinet, Mr Mishra suggested.

China says opposed to US sanctions against Iran

BEIJING, Oct 26 (Reuters) China indicated today it opposed the latest U.S. economic sanctions on Iran, warning that what it called rash steps could ''complicate'' the nuclear standoff with Tehran. Washington announced the new sanctions yesterday, accusing Tehran's Revolutionary Guard of spreading weapons of mass destruction. Now Beijing has joined Moscow in voicing opposition to the move. ''China has always been opposed to imposing sanctions too rashly in international relations,'' Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said in a short statement published.....

Iran closer to nuclear bomb, emigre opposition says

BRUSSELS, Oct 26 (Reuters) Iran may be closer to developing nuclear weapons than three to eight years believed by the UN nuclear watchdog, the country's emigre opposition said today. And changing Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, showed the country no longer needed to play for time in negotiations to push ahead with its nuclear programme, the National Council of Resistance of Iran said. The group was the first to report in 2002 the existence in Iran of uranium enrichment facility.....

Younis hits 82 as South Africa restrict Pakistan to 230

MULTAN, Oct 26 (Reuters) A valiant 82 from Younis Khan could not stop South Africa restricting Pakistan to 230 for nine in the fourth one-day international at Multan stadium today. South Africa, trailing 1-2 in the five-match series, produced sharp fielding and disciplined bowling to give themselves a good chance of levelling the series on a pitch which was sluggish but good for runs.
