New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) The CBI today informed the Supreme Court that the preliminary inquiry against former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family members, in the disproportionate assets case, is complete.
The CBI filed an application, informing the apex court that the preliminary inquiry against Mulayam Singh, his two sons Akhilesh Yadav, a sitting member of the Lok Sabha, and Prateek Yadav and his daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav is complete, it wants to place the status report before the Court for further directions in the matter.
A review petition was filed by Mulayam Singh and his family members against the orders of the Supreme Court, dated March 1, 2007, directing the CBI to conduct preliminary inquiry against the SP supremo to find out whether prima facie cases of corruption is made out against him .
The CBI has approached the Supreme Court without any reference to the Centre or the State Government in the matter.
The directions were issued by the apex court on a PIL filed by a Congress activist from Uttar Pradesh, Vishwanath Chaturvedi, seeking a CBI inquiry into the assets, allegedly acquired by Mr Yadav and his kin through corrupt means, during his tenure as the State Chief Minister.
According to the petitioner, Mr Yadav and his family have acquired assets worth over Rs 100 crore and are liable to be prosecuted under the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA).
A regular case under the PCA is likely to be registered by the CBI against Mulayam Singh and his family, provided it gets green signal from the apex court.
The application is likely to be considered by the Supreme Court next week.
