Brazilian Rocker talks about 'compassion for animals'

Mumbai, Oct 26 (UNI) While India prepares to be ''invaded'' by Brazilian metal-hardcore band Sepultura, its lead singer Derrick Green has agreed for an exclusive interview with petaDishoom.com, website of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India's youth division.

Green turned a vegetarian 23 years ago after learning about the suffering of animals, raised and killed for food.

In addition, three lucky fans, who visit the site, will win a free Sepultura CD. Visitors to the site can also read an exclusive interview with Metakix, who will be opening for Sepultura in Delhi on October 28.

In the interview, Green, who joined Sepultura in 1998, explained why he refuseed to eat meat and the importance of respecting animals and fellow humans. He also discussed the band's graphic video for the song ''Convicted in Life'', which contains real footage of animal abuse, and depicts 'in a twist of Karma' pig slaughterers who turned into pigs, and chicken harvesters who got their brains eaten by hens.

Speaking to reporters, Green said, ''You can really tell how civilised a society is by the way that it treats its animals, everything is connected. Even at a young age, it's important to learn to have compassion for others, to have that respect and knowledge about other animals and other people as well.'' Sepultura and Metakix join a growing list of stars including INXS' JD Fortune, Moby, The Black Eyed Peas, Razorlight, Bombay Rockers and The Sonik Gurus who have teamed up with petaDishoom to inspire kids to challenge outdated and cruel attitude about animals.
