Bangarappa predicts Midterm poll in Karnataka

Bangalore, Oct 26 (UNI) Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party State unit President S Bangarappa today predicted mid-term election in the State stating that forming alternate government by any political party was remote.

"SP would gear up to face the election" Mr Bangarappa said after being felicitated on his 75th birthday here.

He said that after fall of JD(S)-BJP coalition and imposition of President rule there was no alternative left but to go for elections. "No party is in a position to stake claim to form government and elections was imminent," he added.

Mr Bangarappa said that he would launch a state-wide tour from next week to activise the party workers and create awareness among the public.

Expressing confidence that a third front would emerge in the country after the mid-term poll to Karnataka assembly, Mr Bangarappa appealed to all the right thinking people to join hands to fight against communal, corrupt and castist forces and work for building a strong society. "Time has come to wage struggle to establish class-less society" he added.

100% increase in flights from Kerala to Gulf sector

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) There has been more than 100 per cent increase in air services from Kerala to the Gulf region as well as within India in the last three years. Currently, the total number of flights per week from Thiruvananthapuram is 103 of which 47 are by Indian carriers and 56 are by foreign carriers, according to figures available with the ministry of civil aviation. Indian docu filmmakers to be awarded UK fellowships

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) Four Indian documentary filmakers will be awarded the UK Environment Film Fellowships to encaurage them to make documentaries on energy conservation and climate security. Making the announcement, British High Commissioner to India, Richard Stagg CMG, ''Climate change is an important energy security issue. We want to encourage filmmakers to go out and document low carbon energy technologies, which will help ensure energy security as well as contribute to reduced emissions.'' Rs 173 cr allocated for welfare of SC/BC in Haryana

Chandigarh, Oct 26 (UNI) The Haryana government has earmarked a sum of Rs 173.51 crore during the current financial year for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes as against Rs 16.75 crore spent during 2004-05.
