Hyderabad, Oct 26 (UNI) The All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) today demanded that the Centre arrest Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for encouraging the VHP and Bajrang Dal leaders to kill Muslims during the 2002 Gujarat communal carnage, as exposed by Tehelka.
Speaking to newspersons here after participating in a rally organised by the party in protest against the Modi Government, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, MP, demanded that the Centre immediately arrest Mr Modi and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and National Minorities Commission should go to the courts on this issue.
Demanding that the CBI, investigating the communal carnage and Hiren Pandya murder cases, release the Muslim youth, belonging to Andhra Pradesh, who were languishing in Gujarat jails, he said ''it is high time that the Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which was a partner of the BJP-led NDA Government during the communal violence in Gujarat, apologise to Muslims for behaving like a mute spectator.'' More than 20 Muslim youth, mostly from Hyderabad, were incarcerated in Gujarat jails.
Earlier, AIMIM leaders and workers participated in the rally and burnt the effigy of the Gujarat Chief Minister in the sensitive old city. Special police and RPF were deployed in the old city to prevent any untoward incident.
Tehelka, through its sting operation, had yesterday revealed that the riots post-Godhra train carnage were meticulously planned and executed allegedly by ''senior functionaries of the Sangh Parivar in collusion with the State authorities and police with the sanction of Mr Modi''.
