40 ft tunnel spotted in Meerut jail, 3 prison guards booked

Meerut, Oct 26 (UNI) Three prison guards were booked after a 40 feet long tunnel was discovered in the district jail here today.

Senior Police Superintendent Jyoti Narayan said ''The tunnel, 40 feet in length and four feet in diameter, was spotted near barrack 17 and 18 during an inspection by jail superintendent.'' The tunnel was prepared by the prisoners with an intention to escape. Even the jail officials were hand-in-glove with them. If the tunnel was not spotted, almost 150 prisoners would have absconded, he claimed.

Investigations were underway.

TEA thanks Kamal Nath for letter to EU on NGO campaign

Tirupur, Oct 26(UNI) The Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) today thanked Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath for his communication to the EU Trade Commissioner regarding a 'disinforation labour of' campaign by NGOs against garment exporters in India. A TEA press release said the Minister had written to the EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson and the Dutch Foreign Minister to counter the NGO campaign. He cautioned that the campaign could pressuris the Indian government to restrict imports from the EU......

Low pressure area likely over South East Bay of Bengal in 48 hrs

Hyderabad, Oct 26 (UNI) A low pressure area is likely to form over South East Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during next 48 hours, increasing further chances for rainfall in Andhra Pradesh. Under its influence, isolated heavy rain was likely to occur in the districts of Nellore and Prakasam of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Chittoor, Kadapa and Anantapur of Rayalaseema during the period, according to the Indian Meteorological Department. North East monsoon had been vigorous over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh.....

Raids held to divert people's attention: Reddy

Gulbarga, Oct 26 (UNI) BJP MLC Janardhan Reddy alleged that the IT raids held in various places here today was aimed at diverting people's attention from the issue of JD(S) denying power transfer to BJP in the State.
