40 ft tunnel spotted in Meerut jail, 3 prison guards booked

Meerut, Oct 26 (UNI) Three prison guards were booked after a 40 feet long tunnel was discovered in the district jail here today.

Senior Police Superintendent Jyoti Narayan said ''The tunnel, 40 feet in length and four feet in diameter, was spotted near barrack 17 and 18 during an inspection by jail superintendent.'' The tunnel was prepared by the prisoners with an intention to escape. Even the jail officials were hand-in-glove with them. If the tunnel was not spotted, almost 150 prisoners would have absconded, he claimed.

Investigations were underway.

Kochi, Oct 26 (UNI) A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court today clarified that its order of October 10 explaining that it had issued a direction that the political prisoners in Kannur jail should be re-transferred to Viyyur jail in Thrissur district. TEA thanks Kamal Nath for letter to EU on NGO campaign

Tirupur, Oct 26(UNI) The Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) today thanked Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath for his communication to the EU Trade Commissioner regarding a 'disinforation labour of' campaign by NGOs against garment exporters in India.
