Use of bio-gas, solar energy must to overcome power crisis

Jalandhar, Oct 25 (UNI) As the country is facing huge power crisis and renewable power resources are on the verge of collapse, use of alternative energy sources is required to overcome this crisis.

This was stated by Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) consultant Gurnek singh while speaking on the third day of the Bharat Nirman-Public Information Campaign here today.

''If the process to draw power from conventional resources continues for more time, India will have to face more power crisis to meet its electricity needs for its industrial growth as well as domestic consumptions,'' he said.

While emphasising the need of preserving energy, he said, ''No one wants to live in darkness due to which everyone has to inculcate the habit of saving energy.'' The use of windmills, solar energy and biogas could help in saving energy, he said adding that solar cookers, solar lamps, solar voltaic pumps, solar driers and battery chargers are the alternative energy equipments, which could reduce the use of power at the domestic level.

He said, "The PEDA has introduced windmills to generate power and these windmills have proved more beneficial, installed in the areas near rivers and seas in the states of Tamil Nadu, Gujrat and Maharastra. India ranked third in the use of power generated by windmills," he added.
