Launching a new Telugu daily 'Surya' at a function here, he said the state had produced eminent editors, journalists and writers who had always worked for the cause of social justice.
While complementing the managemnet of the new daily, he said the daily should be an all-rounder in all aspects and usher in a new era in journalism.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said the paper should work for social development and educate people with good articles. It should bring to the notice of people the developmental activities and the schemes being carried out by the government for their welfare, he added.
He alleged that media was giving more prominence to personal issues rather than developmental issues.
Communist Party of India (CPI) state unit Secretary K Narayana and Communist Party of India (Marxist) state unit Secretary B V Raghavulu hoped that the new daily would highlight peoples' problems without partiality.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit President Bandaru Dattatreya said newspapers should project news as it is but not as views.
Speaking on the occassion Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhara Rao said instead of projecting sensational news, it should project news which would be helpful to solve the problems of people.
Chairman and Managing director of 'Surya', N Surya Prakasa Rao said the paper would work as per the expectations of the people.
The paper had plans to launch simultaneously from 16 centres, including the four metros,he added.
