Prez wishes Dr. Pachauri for Nobel Peace Prize

New Delhi, Oct 13: President Pratibha Devisingh Patil congratulated the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) chaired by Dr. R.K. Pachauri for sharing this year's Nobel Peace Prize with the former US Vice President Al Gore.

Patil said in a statement that the award is recognition for the crucial work done by Dr. Pachauri and his team members on the IPCC for the benefit of humanity and future generations.

Al Gore and IPCC were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their work educating the world about global warming and advocating for political action to stop it.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee characterized Gore as "the single individual" responsible for convincing world governments that climate change was real, caused by human activity, and posed a threat to society.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced Friday Oct. 12, 2007 that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007 is to be shared, in two equal parts, between the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Albert Arnold (Al) Gore Jr. for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change.
