Small cars = high pollution?

New Delhi, Oct 07 2007: According to a recent study by Centre for Science and Environment, CSE, the influx of small cars will drive public transport and two-wheelers off the roads and greatly increase urban congestion and pollution.

The study reveals that the industry and the government plan to introduce these cars without ensuring sufficiently stringent emission or safety standards for them.

New Delhi, Aug 22: Japan-based Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) today said it will roll out its small cars in India in the next two years with the production slated from India. ''We are exploring and studying what kind of car is good for Indian use. The car will be produced in India but is meant for several countries,'' TMC Chairman of the board Fujio Cho said. Mumbai, Jan 2: Maruti's stable of small cars, led by Wagon R, has topped the Small car catagory, according to a nationwide study conducted by CNBC Awaaz Auto Satisfaction Index. The Maruti Wagon R topped the small car segment followed by Maruti Swift with Maruti Alto and the Maruti 800 taking in the third place jointly. Other cars in the fray include the Hyundai Santro, Tata Indica V2 and Maturi Swift, a release said. In the tough medium car segment,.....

Volkswagen launches Passat Sedan in India

Mumbai, Sept 5: Germany-based European car major Volkswagen (VW) today launched its first locally assembled 'Passat Sedan' in India and has plans to launch small cars, to be manufactured at its Pune plant. The two versions of high-end featured Passat, equipped with TDI 2.0 litre diesel engine, will be available in the Indian market at price range of Rs 22.34 lakh and Rs 24.35 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi).
