Coimbatore blast verdict

Coimbatore, Oct 8 2007: A court in Coimbatore today released 84 accused in the serial blasts case. Over 168 persons were found guilty and charged under various sections.

Of these, one accused died in prison and another turned approver. Of the remaining 166 accused, 84 have been released and 82 have been charged under section 120 b amounting to conspiracy. On February 14, 1998, a series of bomb blasts went off during a rally killing 58 and left many injured.

Coimbatore, Oct 26: The Special Court, hearing the 1998 serial bomb blasts case, today awarded life imprisonment to three more convicts and 13 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to two, thereby concluding the passing of sentences on all the convicts. Special Judge K Uthirapathy also discharged approver Riyas-ur-Rahman from the case. Coimbatore blasts: Court to sentence 12 convicts

Coimbatore, Oct 15: A court here today will pronounce sentences for 12 persons, who were convicted for their involvement in the 1998 Coimbatore serial bomb blasts. Earlier, court had pronounced sentences for 35 persons, who were convicted for their involvement in the case. The imprisonment for the 35 convicts varies from nine months to seven years. Judge K Uthirapathi of the Sessions Court (Bomb Blast cases) set off the term against the period already spent by them as undertrials and ordered.....

Coimbatore, Oct 8: The Special Sessions Court will resume pronouncement of sentences in connection with the 1998 Coimbatore serial bomb blasts case today. The court on September 28 had sentenced 41 accused to rigorous imprisonment in connection with the case. The 41 persons sentenced faced charges other than conspiracy, under the Indian Penal Code, the Indian Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act and the Tamil Nadu Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act.
