Veerappan's widow to file appeal in HC over airing teleserial

Chennai, Oct 9 (UNI) Muthulakshmi, the widow of slain forest brigand Veerappan, will file an appeal in Madras High Court challenging a lower court order vacating the stay on producing a teleserial on her husband by a private Tamil satellite channel.

Talking to reporters here today, she said she would file the appeal this week.

The life of Veerappan has been shot in the form of a teleserial and it would be aired in ''Makkal TV'' from October 15. The 125-episode serial titled, ''Santhanakaadu'' (Sandal forests) directed by V Gauthaman, will depict the life of Veerappan, right from his birthto death, and would highlight both his negative and positive aspects.

With tears rolling down her cheeks, an emotional Muthulakshmi also appealed to the TV channel management to defer airing of the serial in the interests of her two daughters, who were studying in tenth and 11th standards.

''If the serial was aired depicting my husband as a wrong person, fellow school students would ask my daughters about her father, which would affect them mentally. Because of it, they could not even concentrate on their studies,'' she added.

''When the Director along with PMK President G K Mani's son Tamizhkumaran, approached me for permission, I had said it could be taken only after my daughters education are over,'' shesaid and alleged that Mr Gauthaman, while informally talking about Veerappan, had recorded it with a hidden microphone.

Ms Muthulakshmi said considering the future of her daughters, she had also stopped writing a book on Veerappan after completing nearly 650 pages.

''The contents in the book will be taken as evidence and it might go against the cases pending in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka courts against Veerappan's family members. It might even lead to conviction. Based on the advise of my adovcate, I stopped writing it,'' she added.

Notably the city civil court, which had earlier granted a stay on the serial, later vacated it on a petition filed by the director UNI
