Uttarakhand highest grosser among Postal Departments

Dehradun, Oct 9 (UNI) Uttarakhand is the highest grosser among the Postal Department in the country with a total revenue of Rs 68.5 crore this year.

The State Chief Postmaster General Vivek Kaul told the media today, on the occasion of National Postal Week, that the earning was 20 per cent more than that of previous year. ''This is the highest revenue growth by any state in the country'', he revealed.

Speaking on the other achievements of his department, Mr Kaul said that Postal Life Insurance business registered 23 per cent growth during the year 2006-07. He maintained that computerisation of 140 post offices in the state has been the biggest achievement during the present year.

He also maintained that with about 26.24 lakh live accounts under the Small Saving Schemes and a balance of Rs 3989.98 crore, post offices stand as the biggest deposit holding bank in the state.

Besides, he disclosed that the department has signed a retail agreement with Divya Yog Pharmacy, Haridwar, run by Patanjali Yog Peeth of Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev. Sixteen post offices are selling Divya Yog products presently.

In the private sector, the Uttarakhand Circle plans to extend the retailing of products in the state upto the village level, he said.

He added that the local rates for Speed Post has been slashed to Rs 12.

My Govt is committed to uplift backward classes: Modi

BCCI secretary Shah cautions Vengsarkar Rajput

Rajkot, Oct 9 (UNI) BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah today cautioned Chairman of the Selection committee Dilip Vengsarkar on making statements to the media about senior players and Team India manager Lalchand Rajput for reacting to them. Both should not have made any observations to the media during the ongoing One-dayers against Australia'', Shah told UNI here. Welcoming the rotation policy, Shah said inclusion of all rounder S Badrinath for the next two matches against Australia, in place of the injured.....

It's official: Yousuf ditches ICL for rival IPL

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) The mystery over Pakistan run machine Mohammad Yousuf's aligning with either of two rival Indian cricket leagues deepened with BCCI-backed Indian Premier League (IPL) announcing his signing along with 10 other current and past international cricketers today. Yousuf signed on the dotted lines for 'rebel' Indian Cricket League (ICL) after he was omitted from Pakistan's Twenty20 World Cup squad only to back out after much persuasion by PCB chief Nasim Ashraf. Today's announcement by IPL though.....
