Jammu, Oct 9 (UNI) When Ghulam Hassan stepped on the other side of the border, he could not help thanking life for showing small mercies.
Separation may have tugged at his heartstrings for some time, but eventually it was culminating into a reunion he would cherish for the years to come.
The 80-year-old Hassan was finally getting to meet the woman whose umbilical cord he once was attached to.
He was among the 100 people who exchanged sides yesterday at Chakkan-da-Bagh point on the Line of Control in Poonch to meet their loved ones, official sources said today.
Hassan, hailing from the bordering village Gontrian of Poonch, was brought in an ambulance to the crossing point, from where he was shifted to the other side on a stretcher where another ambulance arranged by the PoK authorities took him to his destination at Manng Bajri.
''Ghulam Hassan had expressed his last desire to see his centenarian mother once before his death, despite opposition from his family members and doctors in view of his health condition,'' sources said, adding that he became the centre of attraction at the site.
Fourteen days' permission is usually given to visitors on the either side but this ailing man may return within a couple of days, the sources added.
The 100 people, who crossed sides from 1000 hrs till 1700 hrs yesterday, included 40 from the Indian side, which included 24 fresh residents of Jammu and Kashmir and 16 PoK returnees who went back after meeting their relatives here.
Two Sikhs from Jammu were also among Indians who went to PoK to meet their relatives.
From other side, 31 fresh PoK residents and 29 Indian returnees crossed the LoC, the sources said.
