Tea auction sees good demand by exporters

Kolkata, Oct 9 (UNI) The tea auction held here from Ocober 1-4 saw good demand by exporters, including Major Blender and UK Coninent.

A Kolkata Brokers' Joint Statistics department release here today said that 72,170 packages containing 22,03,966 kgs CTC tea was auctioned in which Tata Tea did selective buying and Western India was active on liquoring teas while Major Blender did some inquiry on bolder brokens and fannings.

Similarly, 5,775 packages containing 1,36,805 kgs Darjeeling tea was auctioned, in which Major Blender lended good support and UK Continent did selective buying. Besides, traditional exporters, other packeteers and locals operated.

About 20,992 packages containing 4,87,704 kgs Orthodox tea was auctioned in which Middle East, CIS shippers and Major Blender was active, particularly on fannings. Besides, North India buyers were fairly active with some support from local dealers.

About 26,694 packages containing 9,67,707 kgs Dust tea were auctioned in which liquoring and grainy well made Assam teas saw good sale and Western India buyers, Major Blender, other large packeteers and local dealers were active.

SAIL leads the Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar-2006 tally

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) Employees of the public sector Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) bagged 12 out of 28 Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskars-2006 presented by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment Oscar Fernandes. Vishwakarma awards are given every year to workers of industrial undertakings, mines, plantations and docks for their innovative suggestions leading to cost reduction, higher productivity, import substitution and improved efficiency of the organisation. LG India sees Rs 9,000 cr turnover by Dec '07

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd (LGEIL) today said it expects a turnover of Rs 9,000 crore from its various products by the year-end. ''We are hoping to clock a turnover of Rs 9,000 crore from our various high-end products by December this year, as against Rs 7,680 crore last year.
