Sugar prices rise on brisk seasonal demand

Navi Mumbai, Oct 9 (UNI) Wholesale sugar prices today rallied by Rs 15 per quintal on sustained heavy seasonal bulk and retail consumers demand, traders at the wholesale sugar market said.

Prices of small and medium grades (per quintal) rose smartly by Rs 15 and Rs ten respectively on lack of offers by stockists in the face of lesser stocks arrivals from mills.

Sugar in ex-mill small and medium grades (per quintal) also rose by Rs ten and Rs 20 respectively on brisk demand by local dealers, traders said.

Following are the spot wholesale rates per quintal: Small grade: Rs 1,360/1,396, Medium grade: Rs 1,406/1,500.

Ex-mill small grade: Rs 1,345/1,370, Medium grade: Rs 1,375/1450.

Mumbai, Oct 9 (UNI) Prices of nickel cathode, copper wire bars, zinc slab and aluminium in ferrous and non ferrous metals declined for the second consecutive day today on sustained heavy offers by stockists, induced by discouraging advice from London Metal Exchange (LME) along with Kolkata, Delhi and other centres, traders at the Bombay Metal Exchange (BME) said. In the ferrous category (per quintal), copper heavy and copper utensils crashed by Rs 500 each due to lack of fresh buying support.....

Father and aunt booked for attempt to kill child

Hisar, Oct 9 (UNI) The police has booked the father and aunt of the five-year-old starved child rescued by social workers here recently, on charges of ''attempt to kill'' the boy. Bhim Singh, father and Dhapa Devi, aunt of Ashwani, who were pushing the child to a ''slow death'' over past three years by denying him food, clothes and shelter, have been booked under section 307 for the alleged attempt to kill the child, sources here said. Ahmedabad, Oct 9 (UNI) Industries in Gujarat need to adopt 'cleaner production' techniques as an effective environmental tool, said Environment and Forests Minister Mangu Patel here today.
