Students demand special status for Hyderabad-Karnataka Region

Gulbarga, Oct 9 (UNI) Students of various colleges and schools staged a demonstration here, demanding amendment to Article 371 of the Constitution conferring special status to the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, the most backward area in the State.

The demonstration was organised by the Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HKCCI), in association with Hyderabad-Karnataka Praja Samithi (HKPS) as part of its mass awareness programme.

Accusing successive Governments both at the Centre and the State of neglecting the region, the HKPS leaders alleged that 'step-motherly attitude was being meted out to the region.

HKCCI president Umakanth Nigudgi, who led the demonstration, addressing the gathering, demanded that the State Government implemented Mulki rules, which was in practice even now in Andhra Pradesh.

Naxalites kill bodyguard of NSS member

Jamshedpur, Oct 9 (UNI) Armed Maoists today shot dead a policeman and injured the treasurer of Nagarik Surksha Samity (NSS) in between Gura Nala and Kashiabera village near the Jharkhand-Orissa border under Gudabandha police station of East Singhbhum district. Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhusudan Bari said four naxalites, who came in cycles, opened fire at NSS member Shailendra Baskey, riding motorbike with his wife. His bodyguard Jogeshwar Murmu who was escorting the former in another bike received six bullets and died.....

GAIL to supply gas to Bawana power plant

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) State-owned GAIL (India) Ltd today inked a gas sales agreement (GSA) with Pragati Power Corporation Ltd (PPCL), Bawana to supply two million standard cubic metres per day (MMSCMD) of R-LNG. ''Gas will be sourced from Petronet LNG Ltd and GAIL will be transporting it to PPCL for which a MoU has already been signed with BPCL and IOCL,'' company's Chairman and Managing Director Dr U D Choubey said. Govt formulating National Plan of Action to check human trafficking

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) The Government is formulating an Integrated National Plan of Action to prevent and curtail the menace of human trafficking which would address all aspect of trafficking including those for sex work, bonded labour and organ trade, Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury said today.
