SBI to adopt one lakh villages in Nadia district

Krishnagar, Oct 9 (UNI) State Bank of India Chairman O P Bhatt today announced plans to adopt one lakh villages in Nadia district as part of their development projects and transform them into new model villges.

Speaking at a press conference, organised here by the Radhanagar Chapra Agri Development branch of their regional business office here, Mr Bhatt with the floating of fresh shares, they would take up the cause of these villages within the next month and assured to bring about dreastic change in the lives of the people here.

He said he expects to accumulate about Rs eight to 10,000 crore through these shares and utilise the money for the development of these villages considering that the state government gave their consent.

''Under this SBI Village Adoption Scheme, we will build 'SBI ka Apna Gao' and would ensure that all BPL families would be risen to APL, apart from providing credit requirement for all eligible rural huseholds, transformation of villages into model villages by improving the quality of the life of the people. promoting SGHS/farmers' club with assistance from NGOs and other development agencies and linkage of community services with banking activities.

''Under the scheme, the Majhidar village in the service area under Radhanagar Agicultural Development Bank was today adopted by the bank,'' he said and added that the bank will chalk out plans for the overall developmemt of villages with active support from the district adminstration.

''Till date, the Bengal circle of the bank has adopted 18 villages under the scheme. Today our Ranaghat Chhotoanulia, Binnanagaranulia, Krishnaganj and Bethuadahari branches have adopted six orphan girls as a part of the SBI family and the staff members of the branches have resolved to monitor these children so that they can fulfill ther life's dreams.

Today the bank also distributed 3,000 saction letters under 'Kishan Credit Card Scheme' to fsrmers to meet their harvesting needs.

Arctic Monkeys named "best act in the world"

Dates' sales up during 'Ramadan'

Srinagar, Oct. 06 2007: Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing an increase in the sale of date fruits during the holy month of Ramadan, as Muslims break their 'Roza' with this fruit. Chandigarh readies for 4th ODI

Chandigarh, Oct. 6 2007: Chandigarh is gearing up to host the fourth one-day international cricket match between Australia and India. The Sector 16 Stadium is being spruced up to host the match on 8th October. Several grounds men are working to give finishing touches to the pitch and the outfield.
