SAIL leads the Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar-2006 tally

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) Employees of the public sector Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) bagged 12 out of 28 Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskars-2006 presented by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment Oscar Fernandes.

Vishwakarma awards are given every year to workers of industrial undertakings, mines, plantations and docks for their innovative suggestions leading to cost reduction, higher productivity, import substitution and improved efficiency of the organisation.

Out of the 12 groups totalling 51 employees, seven groups are from SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant, four from Rourkela Steel Plant and one from Bokaro Steel Plant.

They won the award in three different categories -- three groups each under classes A and B and six groups under class C. The winners under these classes received cash prizes of Rs 50,000 for class A, Rs 25,000 for class B and Rs 10,000 for class C.

In addition to these cash awards, a certificate of merit is also presented to the awardees.

SAIL's Director (Personnel) G Ojha, Director (Finance) S Bhattacharya and Director (Commercial) S Ahmed felicitated the Vishwakarma awardees of the company at Ispat Bhavan here yesterday, said a SAIL release issued here today.

JD(S) betrayed people by allying with BJP: CPI(M)

Gulbarga, Oct 9 (UNI) CPI(M) Karnataka unit Secretary G N Nagaraj today said former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy did the right thing by refusing to hand over power to the BJP and saved the State from 'communal forces'. Speaking to mediapersons here, he, however, said the Janata Dal (Secular) had betrayed the people of the State by giving up its secular image and allying with a ''communal party'' like the BJP. This had resulted in the party losing the trust.....

Kozhikode, Oct 9 (UNI) The pro-IUML Kerala State Muslim Youth League (KSMYL) today demanded the expulsion of State Finance Minister T M Thomas Issac from the Cabinet for his alleged links with ''agents of imperialism''. Talking to newspersons here, KSMYL President K M Shaji said Mr Issac had no moral right to continue in office as the allegations made by the 'Padhom' magazine that his organisation Kerala Shastra Sahitya Parishad (KSSP) was a ''betrayer of the sovereign rights of the people.....

My Govt is committed to uplift backward classes: Modi

Deesa, Gujarat, Oct 9 (UNI) Chief Minister Narendra Modi today increased the monthly stipend of students from backward classes residing in hostels from Rs 450 to Rs 600. This was announced at a function of the Thakor community in Deesa of Palanpur district in north Gujarat, where Mr Modi expressed his Government's commitment for the uplift of backward classes in the state. ''Since I was born into a backward class family, I know the miseries and pain of social discrimination.....
