Parliamentary committee visits power projects in Arunachal

Itanagar, Oct 9 (UNI) In order to give a new thrust to the high potential power sector of Arunachal Pradesh, a 17-member parliamentary standing committee on energy has arrived in the state for on-the-spot inspection of certain areas here.

According to official sources here, the team, headed by Gurudas Kamath, yesterday visited the 2000 MW Subansiri Lower project site at Gerukamukh after unpredictable weather played truant early in the morning preventing the team's proposed visit to Tawang to inspect Tawang-I and Tawang-II project and hear public grievances.

The chopper carrying the team failed to cross through Sella Pass due to poor visibility as a result of inclement weather and decided to visit the project at Gerukamukh, being executed by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation(NHPC), the sources informed.

NHPC chairman-cum-managing director S K Garg and Director(Project) S K Dodeja accompanied the team which also comprised Arunachal MP Kiren Rijiju.

The team had left for Daporijo this morning and would visit Tawang in the afternoon, where it is expected to halt for the night.

State Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu who holds the power portfolio, is camping at Tawang since yesterday to discuss with the team all issues that would expedite execution of power projects in the state, sources added.

Pooja Bhatt asked to furnish personal bond in obscene poster case

Mumbai, Oct 9 (UNI) A local court today directed actor and Fish Eye Network director Pooja Bhatt to furnish a personal bond on October 18 as she had failed to comply with the court's earlier directive in the ''obscene poster case'' pertaining to her film ''Rog''. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate G S Wankhede directed her to furnish the personal bond till the next hearing. The actor had earlier failed to file personal bond on the last date of her hearing scheduled.....

4 from MP get 10 yrs jail, 1 lakh fine for drug trafficking

Nagpur, Oct 9 (UNI) A special court here sentenced four people from Madhya Pradesh (MP) to 10- year imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh each for drug trafficking. Special judge Shivajirao Patil at the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) Court here found Brijlal Baldhari Kathia (34), a resident of district Narsinghpur, MP, Munna alias Lekhram Chhannulal Nagesh (25), Lakhanlal Chhannulal Mehra (23) and Santosh Chhotelal Baskar (25), all residents of district Hoshangabad (MP), guilty of possession.....

CBI files chargesheet against 22 in IPO scam

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) The CBI has filed a chargesheet in Mumbai against 22 people and entities involved in the IPO scam in which two criminal cases were filed in 2006. The investigating agency has also filed a chargesheet against officials of the Bharat Overseas Bank and Indian Overseas Bank, who had deliberately flouted the KYC norms to open thousands of fictitious bank accounts and also sanctioned loans to such fictitious applicants.
