NCC cadets set out on backwaters expedition

Kochi, Oct 9 (UNI) Thirty NCC cadets drawn from various colleges in the city today set out on a ten-day 'Whaler sailing expedition' from here to Kollam.

The expedition, comprising two 'Whaler sail boats' and two motor rescue boats, was flagged off from the Naval base by Captain T P Jaison Thomas, Ernakulam NCC Group Commander.

With night halts at Vaikom, Thannermukkam, Alappuzha, Pallana, Clappana and Kollam en route, the expedition will transit through the backwaters of Vembanad, Kayamkulam and Ashtamudi lakes.

The expedition was aimed at developing the adventure spirit and comradeship amongst cadets besides making them physically tough and mentally strong, an official release said.

The expedition, led by Cdr K P Mathew, Commanding Officer 7(Kerala) Naval NCC, Ernakulam, is expected to reach Thevally Palace jetty at Kollam on October 13 and return to Kochi on October 20.

Govt-Gujjar talks over ST status to begin in evening

Jaipur, Oct 9 (UNI) The Rajasthan government will begin talks with agitating Gujjars, demanding their inclusion in the Scheduled Tribes category, at the Ajmer central jail this evening to end the community's second phase of the week-long protest.
