Govt-Gujjar talks over ST status to begin in evening

Jaipur, Oct 9 (UNI) The Rajasthan government will begin talks with agitating Gujjars, demanding their inclusion in the Scheduled Tribes category, at the Ajmer central jail this evening to end the community's second phase of the week-long protest.

BJP state General Secretary Rampal Jat said the talks with the Gujjar leaders would begin after they reach Ajmer in the evening.

''While most of the leaders, including Col Kirori Singh Bainsala, Dr Roop Singh, Ram Gopal Guard, Devki Nanadan Kaka, Sujan Singh, former minister Sampat Singh, Braham Singh, Durga Singh, Ganeesh Gujjar, Ganesh Gujjar, Roshan Singh, Gagan Singh and Har Govid Singh Kataria have reached Ajmer, rebel BJP MLAs Prahlad Gunjal and Attar Singh Badana are yet to arrive to participate in the talks.

Gujjars launched the second phase of agitation with an indefinite 'jail bharo andolan' on October 2.

Mr Jat expressed the hope that the talks would be fruitful to find a way out to end the agitation.
