Gary appointed as CLTA Coaching Director

Chandigarh, Oct 9 (UNI) The Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) has appointed ITF Level I and II certified coach Gary O'Brien as Director (Coaching).

38-year-old Gary, who joined the CLTA this morning, has earlier worked with Paes en Sport, a sports management company run by hockey Olympian Dr Vece Paes and tennis professional Leander Paes. Mr Gary has served as manager -- Tennis and Fitness and Director Coaching from 1992 to 2002. He has conducted tennis camps in Bangladesh, North Carolina (USA) and Gold Coast (Australia).

Mr Gary is also ITF Level I Tutor and certified professional from United States Professional Tennis Registry.

After joining, Mr Gary said "My priority will be to maintain continuity in training schedule for all groups and all levels." "At present my hand is full as a number of national and internationals events are scheduled in CLTA. The Akhtar Ali's specialised coaching camp is billed from October 17 to 25 while Asian Junior Under-14 Tennis Tournament will be conducted from October 27 to November 5. Level I coaches workshop from November 29 to December 4 and National coaches workshop on December 6 and 7 are the other important events to be conducted at the CLTA Complex," said Gary.

"My stress will be on high performance programme, specially for Under-10 and Under-12, which is the base. Through tennis control system and body composition, evaluation will be done and top eight players would be selected for high performance programme," said Mr Gary who has worked as AITA Development Officer for North East Tennis from 2003 to 2005.

"Data of each trainee will be maintained. Result-oriented programme will be chalked out for short, mid and long term gains.

I am encouraged with the mini tennis programme of the CLTA as it is our base," said Gary.

Stressing on the Physical fitness, he said "I will personally pay attention to this aspect." "Captain (Dr) Satbir, who specialises in sports medicines and is the qualified physical trainer from National Institute of Sports, is associated with the physical training programme of the CLTA," said Mr Gary.

Before joining CLTA, Mr Gary was Director Coaching at Harvest Tennis Academy at Jassowal village in Ludhiana District. He has replaced Gagendra Singh who has resigned and shifted to Delhi.
