DRDO showcases indigenous weapons systems

Kochi Oct 9 (UNI) Models of indigenously developed weapons systems, including the Agni, Prithvi and Nag missiles, battle tanks and other combat vehicles, radars and sonars have been displayed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at an exhibition here.

The week-long exhibition, which started today, has been organised by the Swadesi Science Movement, an autonomous body committed to self reliance in technology, as part of the 'National Self Reliance Week Celebrations'.

The DRDO stall has been organised by the Kochi unit of the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), a unit of DRDO.

The sprawling DRDO stall, spread over 120 square meters, displays the strides made by the country in the frontier areas of avionics, aeronautics, armament, combat vehicles and engineering, electronics, communication and computer systems, misslies, naval systems, materials and life sciences for defence services.

The stall also displays the DRDO's achievements in bio-technology and food technology.

Audio-visual presentations and pamphlets have been used for better information dissemination.

Eight DRDO scientists will be available throughout the exhibition to answer queries, especially from school and college students, an NPOL release said.

Air Arabia to start services to Bangalore

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) Air Arabia, the first international low-cost airline to fly to India, will begin services to Bangalore from October 15. The flights will operate four times per week between Bangalore and the airline's hub in Sharjah. Air Arabia connects Ahmedabad, Chennai, Jaipur, Kochi, Mumbai, Nagpur and Thiruvanathapuram to the Gulf. The airline also started operations to Coimbatore on October 1. Two Assam Rifles jawans killed in blast

Imphal, Oct 9 (UNI) Two jawans of 21 Assam Rifles were today killed in a bomb blast at Umathel in Thoubal district. Earlier, on September 30 night, a jawan of 21 Assam Rifles had died in an encounter with cadres of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), police said. Police and AR sources said the exact cause of death was not known since there was no evidence of any attack from any side with the area being well sanitised by troops.....

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) Larsen&Toubro Ltd (L&T), country's largest engineering company, today said it has received a project worth Rs 693 crore from oil marketing company Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to set up sulphur recovery units. These units would help IOC produce low-sulphur clean fuels to meet regulatory requirements, as it intends to set up these sulphur recovery plants as part of their fuels upgradation project, a company statement said. The order comprises two trains of 300 tonnes per day.....
