Court grants bail to Lovely facing life in DM murder case

Patna, Oct 9 (UNI) Patna High Court today granted bail to Lovely Anand facing life imprisonment in connection with murder of the then District Magistrate of Gopalganj G Krishnaiya in 1994.

After hearing arguments of the prosecutor and defence lawyer, a division bench of the court, comprising Justices Shivkirti Singh and S M M Alam, ordered release of Lovely Anand on bail.

Pleading the case, Kanahiya Prasad Singh, counsel of Lovely Anand said that there was no evidence indicating that his client had alighted on the spot from her car and none of the witnesses spoke even a single word about Lovely during the trial. He further argued that the lower court had awarded death sentence to Anand Mohan, Lovely Anand's husband and his client Ms Anand should immediately be released on bail so that she can return to her three young children.

The counsel of prosecution vehimently opposed the bail application by Lovely Anand saying that he had ample evidence, indicating her presence on the spot. The lawyer, however, failed to exhibit the related proof in the court, after which the judges ordered her release.

Earlier, the Additional District and Sessions Judge Ram Shrestha Rai on October 3 had awarded life to the former MP Lovely Anand. The judge had awarded death sentence to former MP Anand Mohan, former minister Akhlak Ahmad and former MLA Arun Kumar while JD(U) MLA Munna Shukla, Harendra and Shahshisekhar Thakur along with former MP Lovely Anand were awarded life imprisonment in this connection.

The then DM of Gopalganj G Krishnaiya was beaten up and was shot dead the violent mob of a funeral procession at Muzaffarpur on December 5, 1994, when he was returning to Gopalganj after attending an official meeting at Hajipur.
