New Delhi, Oct 9: The Union Cabinet today recommended imposition of President's Rule in Karnataka on the basis of Governor Rameshwar Thakur's report.

The recommendation would be sent to President Pratibha Devisingh Patil later this evening and the state is expected to be brought under President's Rule immediately, government sources said.

The Governor had suggested dissolution of the state Assembly and imposition of President's Rule following the resignation of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy yesterday.

Mr Kumaraswamy had resigned in the wake of withdrawal of support to his government by the BJP.

Under an agreement between the Janata Dal (Secular) and the BJP, reached 20 months ago, Mr Kumaraswamy was to hand over power to Mr B S Yediyurappa of the BJP for the remaining 20 months.

The JD(S)-BJP government had assumed power by dislodging the Congress-JD(S) regime.

3 to 4 new districts to be carved out in Karnataka

Bangalore, Mar 7: Karnataka is all set to get three or four new districts. While there are no problems with the proposed Chikballapur district (carved out of Bangalore Rural and Kolar), the break-up of the unwieldy Belgaum and Gulbarga districts is likely to run into trouble.

A decade after seven new districts were carved out, taking the total in the state from 20 to 27, the exercise has begun again. To skirt clear of prickly issues that previous governments faced before.....
