New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said the Delhi Government has decided to set up a 1500 MW combined Cycle Gas Turbine Power project Pragati III at Bawana in Northwest Delhi keeping in view the fast growing demand for power in the city and ensuing demand for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Talking to reporters after the signing of Gas Sale Agreements between the Pragati Power Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Gas Authority of India Limited and the Indian Oil Corporation Limited for the Bawana Project, Mrs Dikshit said the agreements have been signed for the supply of 6 million standard cubic meter per day gas for Pragati-III project with each of the three companies committed to supply 2 MMSCMD gas which is sufficient to operate the power station to its capacity.
The Chief Minister said the setting up of the power plant was a further step in the direction of meeting the growing demand of power @ 9 per cent per annum and ensuing demand for the Commonwealth Games 2010.
''This is a historic moment for the Capital-city because it has ensured commissioning of the Bawana Project before commencement of the Commonwealth Games,''Ms Dikshit added.
The Chief Minister said the gas supply had been tied up and would be arranged by Petronet LNG Limited by importing the gas. The gas shall be supplied through the existing pipeline which would be required to be upgraded and additional pipelines will be laid from Dadri to Bawana for which GAIL shall incur an expenditure of around Rs 5000 crore.
All the spade works for the project have been completed. All necessary clearances including that of environment have been obtained. Tender for setting up the project on turn key basis have been floated through the international bidding process.
The bid will be received upto October 31 and work on the project will begin within three months.
Power Minister A K Walia, Chief Secretary Ramesh Narayanswami, Pr Secretary (Power) and CMD IOC and top executives from Pragati Power Corporation Limited, BPCL and GAIL were also present on this occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Power Minister A K Walia expressed confidence that commissioning of the coal-based power plant at Jhajjar and gas based power at Bawana would go a long way in making Delhi a power self-sufficient state within the next three to four years.
