Vodafone Essar East to connect all villages in Bengal By 2009

Kolkata, Oct 8(UNI) Expanding its network, Vodafone Essar East would connect all villages in West Bengal by 2009.

"All villages of the state would be connected in the next one to one-and-a-half years", company's chief executive officer Sridhar Rao told reporters here.

Mr Rao said the company was increasing cell sites for better services by adding 50 to 60 cell sites in in Kolkata alone.

At present, the company has 1,400 cell sites in Kolkata, an 1,900 in the Bengal circle.

He said the company would also launch Vodafone-branded GSM phones.

Rupee registers fresh 9 year high

Mumbai, Oct 8 (UNI) Despite quiet trading in the overnight forex market, Rupee bettered its previous margins today ending nearly five paise up at 39.44/45 per dollar, marking a fresh nine year high. According to sources, the inflows entered into the domestic equities on Monday was around 0.5 billion US dollars, while the figure is estimated to be around 25-30 billion US dollars to date in the current fiscal. The domestic currency has appreciated by nearly 10 percent after March this.....

Mumbai, Oct 8 (UNI) Precious metals today closed lower with Silver declining by Rs 135 per kg and Gold by Rs 65 per ten gm in absence of fresh demand from ornament makers in view of discouraging advice from global markets, traders at the Bombay Bullion Association said. Silver (.999 fineness) price was quoted below 18,000 mark and opened lower at Rs 17,995 per kg on thin buying support. Later, white metal drifted further lower and closed negative at Rs 17,920.....
