Thousands attend Nirankari spiritual assembly

Mumbai, Oct 8 (UNI) Sant Nirankari Mission head Baba Hardev Singh has stressed on respect for human values to thousands of his followers at an gathering held at the MMRDA Ground.

He exhorted the audience to lead a life ''fortified with human values and keep up the good work'' at the gathering here yesterday.

Tracing the decline of man to the pursuit of materialistic goals, he said it has shed human values and morals on the way.

''There's no end to man's greed and needs. Needs may be fulfilled sooner or later, but there's no end as well as fulfillment in greed,'' he extolled.

He referred to his observations at the 8th International Conference on Corporate Governance and pointed out that a better world could not be created only by materialistic acheivements, and how it was important to imbibe values of love, compassion, tolerence and forgiveness.

The next congregation is scheduled for October 9 at the Dronagiri Sports Association Ground and at Shivaji Park maidan on October 11, said a release.

Nandigram again on boil; Three killed in fresh violence

Nandigram, Oct 8 (UNI) Fresh outbreak of clashes between the Trinamool Congress-supported Bhumi Uchhed Pratirodh Committee (BUPC) and the CPI(M) activists left at least three persons dead and five critically injured here in East Midnapur district during the past 24 hours. Police said CPI(M) local committee member Manas Mondal was allegedly shot dead by the BUPC activists at Kalagachia near here today, while two persons lost their lives yesterday. HNLC "area commander" surrenders before Army

Shillong, Oct 8 (UNI) An ''area commander'' of a Meghalaya-based banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council militant outfit today surrendered before General Officer Commanding 101 Area Major General Vinod Nayanar. HNLC area commander Bajop Dympep, who was active with the militant outfit, was operating at Dawki area, bordering the Indo-Bangla border of Jaintia Hills district. Dympep was also instrumental in guiding the HNLC ultras to crisscross the Indo-Bangla border and transferring the extortion money to HNLC leaders camping in Bangladesh, Army.....

AIR to launch dedicated news channel - DG

Bhubaneswar, Oct 8 (UNI) In a bid to counter the competition from electronic media, All India Radio (AIR) is seriously contemplating to introduce a dedicated news channel during the 11th Plan period, Director General P K Bandopadhaya today said. Mr Bandopadhaya, who was here in connection with the inauguration of Orientation workshop for PTC of AIR and DD, told newsmen that the Bureau of Audience Research (BAR) had conducted a survey on the possibility of a dedicated news channel for AIR.....
