The order was passed by the court of Special Judge (Anti-Corruption) Rekha Dikshit.

The CBI had submitted its report before the HC on February 15 this year. Both Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and former State Environment Minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui, the prime accused in the case, were acquitted after UP Governor T V Rajeswar refused prosecution to sanction their. Presently, the case is pending against four accused.

The case first came before the Supreme Court (SC) after an advocate filed a PIL challenging the decision not to prosecute Mayawati on the basis of the opinion of the Attorney General (AG), when the investigating officer had opined otherwise.

Interestingly, the file was sent to the Governor by the Mulayam Singh Government on May 9, two days before the declaration of the Assembly elections results, which brought Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party to power.
