Students block road

Puducherry, Oct 8 (UNI) Traffic to Villuppuram via Nettapakkam was affected for over an hour today as students of the Ramamurthy Government High School along with their parents put up a road blockade at Madukarai, demanding immediate filling up of vacant teachers' posts.

Police and education department authorities held talks with the agitators and pacified them.

Meanwhile, fish vendors here blocked the busy Nehru street, demanding action against the employees of a textile showroom here for allegedly assaulting a fisherman yesterday. The agitation was called off after police assured them to take action against the culprits.

DYFI 'pedal' for SSCP implementation

Madurai, Oct 8 (UNI) Over 100 cadres of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) today took out a bicycle rally from Madurai to Rameswaram to press for early implementation of Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project (SSCP). The rally was flagged off by Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader P Mohan MP from Avaniyapuram in the city. Similar bicycle rallies, which took off from Virudhunagar, Sivaganga and Tuticorin today would converge at Rameswaram on October 10, where a meeting would be held to.....

APSRTC to run extra buses to offset drop after seizures

Hyderabad, Oct 8 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation today issued notices to Regional Managers to ply additional buses in view of the decrease in the number of buses following drive against buses violating permit conditions. The drive had created inconvenience for the passengers. In addition to normal schedules from Hyderabad to Vijayawada, 30 extra buses were put into service in the Ranga Reddy Region, a release said here today. UNI.....

Gujjars take out a massive protest rally

New Delhi, Oct 6, 2007 : Protestors of the Gujjar community today took out a protest rally in New Delhi to demand Schedule tribe status and reservation in top educational institutions in the country. The protestors demanded the removal of Vasundhara Raje, chief minister of northwestern Rajasthan state, and the dismissal of her government.
