Speedy trial to continue in Bihar - Nitish

Patna, Oct 8 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said a speedy trial against criminals would continue and the state government would discharge its constructive role in the mission.

After holding Janata Darbar, Mr Kumar ruled out targetted action against criminals in the name of a speedy trial and told newspersons here that being part of the government it was the responsibility of police to help the prosecution in the disposal of the cases.

Regarding statement of the Home Commissioner Afzal Amanullah about the trial of the cases involving musclemen and politicians, Mr Kumar said the Home Commissioner had been directed to explain the situation.

He said there was a provision for making an appeal in the higher courts by the affected parties. He also said following speedy trial 24 people had been awarded death penalty so far this year, while last year the figure stood at 17.

UCE students resort to relay hunger strike

Sambalpur, Oct 8 (UNI) After peaceful dharna for five days demanding deemed university status, the students of University College of Engineering (UCE) at Burla today resorted to relay hunger strike. Nearly 25 boys and girls of the college sat in the relay hunger strike to intensify their demand. Official sources said a staff council meeting chaired by the principal Professor S K Sanyal was held to find out solutions over the impasse. Two senior staff and students will move to Bhubaneswar.....

New train's first run from New Delhi to Rohtak

Chandigarh, Oct 8 (UNI) The newly launched 4323/4324 Rohtak-New Delhi Express train went on its first journey from New Delhi to Rohtak railway station today. The train was flagged off by the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi from Rewari yesterday. Rohtak M P Deepender Singh Hooda said the new train would be a boon for those travelling between Delhi and Rohtak. On this occasion, a large number of passengers from Haryana, who were going to Rohtak thanked Mr Deepender Singh Hooda.....

Mandideep developed into a leading industrial centre

Bhopal, Oct 8 (UNI) Thirty years after industries first came up in Mandideep the industrial suburb of the state capital is being compared with leading industrial centres. Hitherto a sleepy village in Raisen district, Mandideep, which started on an area of 560 acre, is now sprawled across 2,000 acre. In 1983, Mandideep housed 49 industrial units. Looking back through history, Mandideep -- situated in close proximity to Bhojpur's Shiva temple -- was surrounded by a big lake since the 10th.....
