Review committee recommends release of 15 persons

Srinagar, Oct 8 (UNI) A joint review committee today recommended to the Jammu and Kashmir government the release 15 detenues on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, an official spokesman said.

He said the joint review committee, constituted by the Jammu and Kashmir government for scrutiny of the cases of Public Safety Act (PSA) detainees, met here to review the cases of 277 persons under detention for their involvement in militancy-related activities in various jails of the state.

Those who attended the meeting were Financial Commissioner (Home) B R Kundal, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir police Kuldeep Khuda, Inspector General of CID K Rajendra Kumar, Joint secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs Mitali Sen Gavai and Joint Director of IB Arun Chaudhary.

The committee examined all the cases in detail and recommended the release of 15 persons from detention.

On Saturday, a senior separatist leader Bilal Siddiqui was released after 13 years of detention.

6 year old girl killed, another injured by gunmen in north Kashmir

Baramulla, Oct 8 (UNI) A six-year-old girl, Mehwish was killed and her sister injured when some unidentified gunmen resorted to indiscriminate firing in their house in north Kashmir tonight. Official sources said a group of gunmen entered the house of one Mohammd Maqbool Malik at Warpora-sopore and resorted to indiscriminate firing. They said Mehwish died on the spot while her 26-year-old sister Nighat was injured. The gunmen later managed to escape before the arrival of police. UNI.....

3 of family drown as Bullock cart falls Ganga

Badaun, Oct 8 (UNI) At least three persons, including two minors, were drowned, when a bullock cart, carrying eight people, fell into the river Ganga here this evening. Police said eight people of village Basulia were going to their farm on a bullock cart along the river shore, when the vehicle accidently overturned and fell in the river. While Shabana (15), Heena (10) and Ummed Ali (55) drowned, five others were saved by the alert villagers. Bodies had been sent for.....

Indians trust 'word-of-mouth' advertising more than any other form

Mumbai, Oct 9 (UNI) A study has indicated that 87 per cent Indians trust recommendations from others over any other kind of advertising, making ''Word-of-Mouth'' advertising the most powerful tool. According to the recent global Nielsen Internet survey, India ranks fourth among the top ten countries globally which trusts recommendations from consumers. Hong Kong leads the list with 93 per cent. Seven of the top ten markets that rely most on ''recommendations from consumers'' are in Asia. Conducted twice-a-year among 26,486.....
