Migrant labour killed as paddy thresher overturns

Fatehabad, Oct 8 (UNI) A migrant labourer was killed and four others injured when the paddy thresher on which they were sitting overturned near Hanspur village in the district today, police here said.

According to reports, the victim Sunil Saha and twelve other migrant labourers were sitting on the thresher which was being pulled by a tractor. The thresher overturned when the tractor took a sharp turn.

The injured were identified as Ganesh, Vinod, Surender and Hansa. They were admitted to the hospital here.

In another incident in the district, a motorcyclist Subhash died after he was hit by a truck. The victim was trying to overtake a tractor trolley, when a truck coming from the opposite direction ran over him on Ratia road.

In yet another accident, Amrik, a resident of village Aherwan was killed when he was hit by an unknown vehicle.

SWR to run weekly specials

Hubli, Oct 8 (UNI) South-Western Railway (SWR) will run weekly special trains between Yesvantpur and Jodhpur to clear rush of passengers during the forthcoming festival season. Yesvantpur-Jodhpur weekly special would leave Yesvantpur at 1735 hours on Sundays from October 14 and arrive Jodhpur on Tuesdays at 1700 hours, a railway release said here today In the return direction, it would leave Jodhpur at 0530 hours on Wednesdays and arrive Yesvantpur at 0600 hours on Fridays. Students block road

Puducherry, Oct 8 (UNI) Traffic to Villuppuram via Nettapakkam was affected for over an hour today as students of the Ramamurthy Government High School along with their parents put up a road blockade at Madukarai, demanding immediate filling up of vacant teachers' posts. Police and education department authorities held talks with the agitators and pacified them. Meanwhile, fish vendors here blocked the busy Nehru street, demanding action against the employees of a textile showroom here for allegedly assaulting a fisherman yesterday......

Three boys drowned in K'taka

Gulbarga, Oct 8 (UNI) Three boys drowned in two separate incidents in this district of Karnataka. Police said two boys drowned when they went to wash clothes in the tank at Shahpur yesterday. The bodies of deceased identified as Srikanth Krishna (18) and Sharuk Ahmad (12) were fished out of the tank and handed over to their parents. In another mishap, Venkatesh (15) drowned in a tank when he went for a swim last night. The body was retrieved.....
