India extends Rs one crore assistance to Uganda for flood hit

New Delhi, Oct 08 (UNI) India has announced an emeregency assistance of Rs one crore to Uganda for flood relief, a spokesman of the External Affairs Ministry said.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has written a letter to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni conveying condolences on the loss of life and property due to unprecedented floods in that country.

''As a token of India's solidarity with the Government and people of Uganda, the Prime Minister has also announced an emergency assistance of Rs. one crore,'' the spokesman said.

The amount can be used to provide relief supplies from India or for local procurement.

Short circuit caused fire in Panipat textile mill

Panipat, Oct 8 (UNI) Preliminary investigations in yesterday's fire incident in a local textile factory here have indicated that a short circuit in an underground cable laid for illegal electricity supply caused the blaze. At least 10 workers were charred in the inferno that broke out in the spinning mill at 0230 hrs yesterday. However, the cause of the fire would be ascertained only after the report was received from the forensic science laboratory, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Amit Kumar Aggarwal.....

Review committee recommends release of 15 persons

Srinagar, Oct 8 (UNI) A joint review committee today recommended to the Jammu and Kashmir government the release 15 detenues on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, an official spokesman said. He said the joint review committee, constituted by the Jammu and Kashmir government for scrutiny of the cases of Public Safety Act (PSA) detainees, met here to review the cases of 277 persons under detention for their involvement in militancy-related activities in various jails of the state. Srinagar, Oct 8 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Government tonight announced six percent additional Dearness allowance (DA) for its employees and Pensioners. An official spokesman said work charge and whole time contingent employees will also get six percent DA of the basic pay. The allowance has been allowed with effect from July 1, 2007. By the sanctioning of six percent additional DA installment, the total revised Dearness rate will be now 41 percent. Government has also sanctioned six percent additional installment.....
