HC refuses interim relief to 1200 sacked police radio operators

Lucknow, Oct 8 (UNI) In a landmark judgement, Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court today rejected a petition seeking interim relief to the 1200 dismissed police radio operators.

The order was passed by Justice O P Srivastava on a petition filed by Renu Tripathi and 44 others.

The petitioners had challenged the decision of the state government, whereby, all the recruitments during 2005-06 had been annulled.

Directing the UP government to file a reply in this regard within two weeks, the HC posted the next hearing to October 30.

The Mayawati government on September 11 had suspended 12 senior Indian Police Services (IPS) officers in the state for their involvement in police recruitment scam during the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav regime and annulled 14 recruitment boards, in which a total of 6,504 civil police and PAC constables were recruited.

On September 30, the BSP government had also annulled the recruitments of 7400 constables -- 1900 recruited for the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and another 1200 for the wireless (radio) services -- after gross irregularities were detected in their selection during the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav regime.

With this, the total number of constables fired had reached 17,868. The total number of IPS suspended for committing irregularities had spiralled to 25.

Over 20,000 policemen were recruited during the previous SP regime and several irregularities were detected during the probe conducted by the present BSP government, when it came to power with a thumping majority in May.
