Govt to ban plastics upto 100 microns: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 8 (UNI) Kerala Sports and Youth Affairs Minister M Vijayakumar today said the government would take legal steps banning plastics up to 100 microns in the state.

Inaugurating a workshop on ''Goodby to Plastics'', organised by the Municipal Corporation here, he said plastic was a challenge and the rural and urban areas were facing serious menace with it.

Even the high range areas were not free from it, he added Stating that plastics was harmful for both men and land, he said people should be informed of its disadvantages.

Mr Vijayakumar said if the ban on plastics failed, it would adversely affect the environment.

Bangalore-Mangalore Project to be launched in November

Bangalore, Oct 8 (UNI) The Bangalore-Mangalore rail route will be thrown open for passenger traffic from the second week of November, Minister of State for Railways R Velu said today. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here, he said all safety measures have been taken for running trains on the track, which would reduce the distance between the Eastern and Western Coast (from Chennai to Mangalore). Justice Ananda Reddy appointed Lokayukta

Hyderabad, Oct 8 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Governor Narayana Dutt Tiwari today appointed High Court Judge S Ananda Reddy as state's Lokayukta. According to an official release, Justice Ananda Reddy's term would be for a period of five years. Kerala to set up coastal, community police stations

Kozhikode, Oct 8 (UNI) The Kerala government is planning to establish eight coastal and 14 community police stations at various parts of the state, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishan said today. Talking to newspersons here, Mr Balakrishan said the first coastal station would come up at Neendakara and another one at Beypore in Kozhikode district to ensure strict maintenance of law and order, along the coastal areas.
