Forest officials seize weapons from labourers

Puducherry, Oct 8 (UNI) The Forest Department officials today seized axe and other weapons from labourers, who were cutting trees in front of Pondicherry Railway Station here.

According to officials, as many as four trees were planted in memory of Kargil soldiers, immediately after the Kargil War.

Meanwhile, the Southern Railway as part of its expansion programme to make Pondicherry railway station a model railway station, had entrusted the work to some contractors.

The labourers engaged by the contractor had already cut three out of the four trees. When they came to cut the fourth tree, the officials seized the weapons.

Meanwhile, a few persons of the nearby area performed pooja to the tree.
