Desara fete: Political impasse to haunt dist admn

Mysore, Oct 8 (UNI) With hardly four days left for the inauguration of the Desara festival here, the district administration is under pressure following the ''political uncertainty'' in Karnataka and Siddaganga Seer Shivakumara Swamiji, pulling out of the inauguration citing poor health.

Seer Shivakumara Swamiji was scheduled to inaugurate the festival on October 12.

However, the government replaced Shivakumara Swamiji with Sri Adhi Chunchanagiri Seer Sri Balagangadharanatha Swamiji to inaugurate the festival, atop the Chamundi Hills.

The administration, trailing behind in the printing of invitations for the celebrations, completed the task today.

Forest officials seize weapons from labourers

Puducherry, Oct 8 (UNI) The Forest Department officials today seized axe and other weapons from labourers, who were cutting trees in front of Pondicherry Railway Station here. According to officials, as many as four trees were planted in memory of Kargil soldiers, immediately after the Kargil War. Meanwhile, the Southern Railway as part of its expansion programme to make Pondicherry railway station a model railway station, had entrusted the work to some contractors. The labourers engaged by the contractor.....

Mumbai, Oct 8 (UNI) The Bombay high court today granted time till November 20 to the state government to decide on the sanction to prosecute police officers, involved in the alleged custodial death of Sayyad Khwaja Yunus, an accused in the Ghatkopar Best bus bomb blast case of December 2002. A division bench comprising Justice R M S Khandeparkar and Justice V K Tahilramani had last time directed a court in Parner in Ahemednagar district to decide on a pending B-summary.....

Shimla, Oct 8 (UNI) Congress (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka Vadhera left for New Delhi today after inspecting her four and half biga of land at Moshobra, near here, official sources said. She was accompanied by her husband and children who visited the land near the Kalyani Helipad on the outskirts of the town, the sources, requesting anonymity, told UNI here. Kumaraswamy resigns
