New Delhi, Oct 8 (UNI) Getting into action after yesterday's horrific incident of a rampaging Bluelines bus ploughing into 17 bystanders in South Delhi, the Delhi Police today announced several measures to rein in the 'killer buses'including initiating action under relevant sections of the IPC for those indulging in rash driving.
After a high level meeting, it was decided to initiate several measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents, a Delhi Police spokesperson said.
Henceforth, the Delhi police will initiate action under IPC on drivers who indulge in rash driving including, if necessary, impounding of the vehicle.
Further, the police have undertaken a drive for verification of drivers whose licenses have been cancelled to ascertain that any of them are not operating buses by using photocopies of the old licenses An additional 50 PCR vans will now be deployed, on a regular basis, all over Delhi for constant monitoring of the operation of the Blueline buses.
In addition, the Delhi police vans will indulge in night patrolling once a week to check for any cases of rash driving in the city.
The police spokesperson said that the Delhi Police had taken a number of steps this year to check the Blueline menace.
In their drive against the buses, 9268 vehicles had been impounded this year, 2965 driving licenses punched, 1360 drivers arrested for violating laws. In 1005 cases, the driver or the vehicle owners had been challaned for overcrowding in the bus while 814 were challaned for not having installed speed governors in buses.
Eight people, including five women and a child, were crushed to death and nine injured when a bus plying on route No 460 between Badarpur and Minto road ploughed into the crowd, which was waiting at the Aligaon railway bridge bus stop yesterday morning.
