CPI(ML)-Liberation demands Food Minister's resignation

Kolkata, Oct 8 (UNI) The CPI(ML)-Liberation today demanded state Food Minister Paresh Adhikari's resignation for the alleged malpractices in the Public Distribution Sytem(PDS) in the state.

'' The Food Minister should resign owning moral responsibility, '' party secretary Kartick Pal said in a statement and demanded that corrupt ration dealers, who were allegedly in collusion with some panchayat members and party leaders, should be arrested immediately.

The corrupt ration dealers' licences should be cancelled and a judicial inquiry be initiated for the alleged malpractices in PDS, he stated and also demanded the arrest of those police officials, who had resortd to firing, killing two persons.

'' We will organise demonstration in front of the Food department offices in all the districts throughout the state to meet our demands, '' he said.

CPI(M) welcomes Ordinance on no confidence motion

Chennai, Oct 8 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Tamil Nadu unit today welcomed the state government's Ordinance on removal of Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the urban local bodies through no confidence motion. CPI(M) State Secretary N Varadarajan, in a statement here, said when the democratic right of no confidence motion was misused, the state government had rightly issued the Ordinance that no confidence motions should be supported by at least 80 per cent of the councillors.
