Congress emerge single largest party in Nanded

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Oct 8 (UNI) The Congress has emerged as the single largest party in the Nanded-Waghala Municipal Corporation (NWMC) elections by winning 37 seats, the elections for which were held yesterday.

The results to the NWMC were declared today.

There were total 517 candidates in the fray for the elections held in Nanded, about 280 km from here.

The Congress had fielded its candidates in all the 73 wards, while NCP had its 72 candidates in the fray, followed by Shiv Sena 47, BJP 42, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) 21 and Lok Bharati Chikhlikar Mitra Mandal 37 and others were either independents or candidates belonging to smaller parties.

The NCP emerged as the second largest party with 10 seats, followed by Shiv Sena (9), BJP (3), Lok Bharati-Chikhlikar Mitramanda (4), MNS, BSP and the SP won one seat each and seven independents were also declared elected, according to sources.

8 killed, 14 injured in Rajkot

Rajkot, Oct 8 (UNI) At least eight persons were killed and 14 others were injured in two separate road accidents in Saurashtra region last night. In the first incident, two persons were killed and six others were injured when a State Transport Roadways Bus bumped into a tree while taking a sharp turn near Sardhar, about 50 km from here, on the Rajkot-Bhavnagar highway. The victims were returning to Botad after attending a Brahm Sammelan here. The injured were rushed.....

ISRO Chairman to deliver lecture at SU Campus

Rajkot, Oct 8 (UNI) Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman Prof G Madhavan Nair will inaugurate the building of Vikram Sarabhai Centre for Space and Atmospheric Science at the Saurashtra University Campus here on October 9. Prof Nair will also interact with the University students and deliver a speech at the inauguration ceremony, Saurashtra University Registrar G M Jani said. Setback to BJP-Sena alliance in Nagpur civic by-polls

Nagpur, Oct 8 (UNI) The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shiv Sena alliance has suffered a jolt in the by-elections to ten wards of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) as it could retain only one of the eight seats that it originally held, even as independents ruled the roost, winning six seats. The BJP posted the lone win for the saffron alliance, retaining one of the five that it held earlier, while the Shiv Sena, which held three, could not win even one......
