Body of Sri Lankan national handed over to relatives

Tiruchirappalli, Oct 8 (UNI) The body of Sri Lankan national Warnakulasuriya Canicius Fernando (44), who was gunned down by a security guard at Madurai Central Prison recently, was handed over to his relatives here today.

Police said the body was handed over to his relatives after all the legal formalities.

The Sri Lankan national, a native of Negombo in Sri Lanka, was shot dead, when he attempted to enter the prohibited area of the prison to meet his colleagues, who were lodged there.

Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Oct 8 (UNI) A high-level official of Sri Lankan embassy at Chennai today held detailed enquiries with the District Collector and senior police and prison officials over the recent killing of a Sri Lankan national by a security guard in front of the Madurai Central Prison. Official sources told UNI here that First Secretary to the Deputy High Commissioner M H Marsho arrived here to get first hand information over the incident.
