Administrative officers should be more pragmatic: Chouhan

Bhopal, Oct 8 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said pragmatism and positive attitude of administrative machinery helps in solving public problems.

He asked the administrative officers to maintain contact with public and their representatives for quick redressal of public grievances besides stepping up implementation of welfare schemes and ensuring quality in construction works.

Mr Chouhan, while addressing a conference of divisional commissioners and district collectors at Narmada Bhawan said, proper dissemination of information of schemes among public ensured that benefits reached them, an offcial release said here today.

All district collectors, Superintendents of Police and other senior officers attended the conference. Chief Secretary R C Sahni, Principal Secretaries and other senior officers of development departments were also present at the conference.

He sought more efficient implementation of 'Gaon Ki Beti Yojana' and 'Pandit Deen Dayal Upchar Yojana'.

Crops had been damaged due to paucity of rains in Sagar, Rewa divisions and partially in Gwalior division. Timely and adequate relief should be provided to the affected farmers, added Mr Chouhan.

The Chief Minister said, ''ensuring availability of essential commodities at fair price shops was priority of the state government and the district collectors should pay special attention to this.

The poor families should get kerosene and food grains on time.'' He stressed the need for persistent efforts to eliminate malnutrition, enrolment of children in schools, medical help to the people afflicted with serious diseases, women empowerment, better conduct of Anganwadi centres and welfare of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.

Mr Chouhan directed to make schemes like the Mukhya Mantri Kanyadan Yojana, Ladali Laxami Yojana, scheme for social security to the landless labourers, farm pond scheme and Balram Tal Yojana a great success.

Earlier, during department-wise review, the Chief Minister invited officers to have an open discussion and speak frankly about the problems being faced by them on the field.

He stressed on the need for disposal of revenue cases within time limit. He directed disposal of pending cases of 'pattas' to members of Sindhi community in some districts, the release added.

Three boys drowned in K'taka

Gulbarga, Oct 8 (UNI) Three boys drowned in two separate incidents in this district of Karnataka. Police said two boys drowned when they went to wash clothes in the tank at Shahpur yesterday. The bodies of deceased identified as Srikanth Krishna (18) and Sharuk Ahmad (12) were fished out of the tank and handed over to their parents. In another mishap, Venkatesh (15) drowned in a tank when he went for a swim last night. The body was retrieved.....

1 killed, 15 injured in accident

Madurai, Oct 8 (UNI) A pedestrian was killed and 15 others injured when the driver of a van lost control and hit a tree at Oormechikulam village near here today. Police said K Irulan (34) died on the spot when the van ran over him. The injured, travelling in the van, were admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital here. UNI.....

DYFI 'pedal' for SSCP implementation

Madurai, Oct 8 (UNI) Over 100 cadres of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) today took out a bicycle rally from Madurai to Rameswaram to press for early implementation of Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project (SSCP). The rally was flagged off by Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader P Mohan MP from Avaniyapuram in the city. Similar bicycle rallies, which took off from Virudhunagar, Sivaganga and Tuticorin today would converge at Rameswaram on October 10, where a meeting would be held to.....
