3 of family drown as Bullock cart falls Ganga

Badaun, Oct 8 (UNI) At least three persons, including two minors, were drowned, when a bullock cart, carrying eight people, fell into the river Ganga here this evening.

Police said eight people of village Basulia were going to their farm on a bullock cart along the river shore, when the vehicle accidently overturned and fell in the river.

While Shabana (15), Heena (10) and Ummed Ali (55) drowned, five others were saved by the alert villagers.

Bodies had been sent for autopsy.

Jagjit Singh hospitalised

Mumbai, Oct 8 (UNI) Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh was today admitted to the Bombay Hospital after he complained of severe headache and weakness. Bombay hospital spokesperson Dr Ashish Tiwari told UNI that the Singer was admitted to the hospital this morning for treatment of a headache and other routine weaknesses''. He said the singer will undergo a series of tests. His condition was described as stable this evening. Tiwari, however, refuted reports that Jagjet had suffered a paralytic stroke. UNI.....

Lankan's death at Madurai prison: Embassy official holds enquiry

Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Oct 8 (UNI) A high-level official of Sri Lankan embassy at Chennai today held detailed enquiries with the District Collector and senior police and prison officials over the recent killing of a Sri Lankan national by a security guard in front of the Madurai Central Prison. Official sources told UNI here that First Secretary to the Deputy High Commissioner M H Marsho arrived here to get first hand information over the incident. CPI(ML)-Liberation demands Food Minister's resignation

Kolkata, Oct 8 (UNI) The CPI(ML)-Liberation today demanded state Food Minister Paresh Adhikari's resignation for the alleged malpractices in the Public Distribution Sytem(PDS) in the state. '' The Food Minister should resign owning moral responsibility, '' party secretary Kartick Pal said in a statement and demanded that corrupt ration dealers, who were allegedly in collusion with some panchayat members and party leaders, should be arrested immediately. The corrupt ration dealers' licences should be cancelled and a judicial inquiry be initiated for.....
