'Conspiracy within BJP prevented Power transfer'

Bangalore, Oct 7: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today alleged that a conspiracy of ''manipulative politics'' was hatched within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to prevent Mr B S Yediyurappa from becoming Chief Minister after the transfer of power on October 3.

Speaking to newspersons here after the Janata Dal(Secular) Legislature Party meeting, he claimed though Mr Yediyurappa stayed in the city for several days from September 30, he did not put in efforts to pave the way for the transfer of power. His meeting with JD(S) Chief H D Deve Gowda was also not made public yet.

''It is a lobby of some state BJP leaders that succeeded in prevailing upon him to prevent the transfer of power and Mr Yediyurappa is the victim,'' he alleged. Recalling developments during the last week, he said this lobby continuously ''misled'' Mr Yediyurappa and succeeded in its venture.

The conduct of some BJP leaders was only responsible for the non-transfer of power.

''That is why no BJP leader made any effort to discuss with me on the transfer of power during the last one week. Mr Yediyurappa should sit along and ponder over these leaders,'' he added.

To a question, the Chief Minister said he would call on Governor Rameshwar Thakur tomorrow and appeal to him to provide him a chance to prove his strength in the Assembly.

He said his intention was to tell people about the transfer of power and the developments that occurred in the last 20 months, through the Assembly.

On whether his party would seek support from the Congress, he replied in negative and said: ''It is not necessary for me to go and beg the Congress to support me. We prefer a mid-term polls,'' he remarked.

His party would also embark on a state-wide tour to enlighten the people about the reasons that prevented the transfer of power to the BJP.

A Joint Secretary level Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) official has been recalled from Sri Lanka for having alleged connection with a foreigner woman. Ravi Nair, a 1975 batch RAS officer, who managed to get plum postings despite been on scanner for a long time had raised eyebrows in the services. During his posting in Hong Kong, Nair had met a "foreigner friend" (woman) believed to be working for a Chinese spy agency prompting the authorities to ask him to come back. However, within a brief time the officer was again given a foreign posting in Colombo where the woman also came and allegedly started staying with him, raising suspicion, sources said adding Nair was allegedly sharing "patronage" from some officials in the power corridor. The officials of other departments, posted at the Indian High Commission, sent reports about Nair to their respective departments paving way for his recall. The department was quick enough to find a replacement as well as pre-emptive measure so that the official was brought here. Already under fire over the embarrassing escape of joint secretary Rabinder Singh in 2004, the RAW did not want to take any chance this time and was planning a departmental action against him. The role of some former chiefs of RAW may also come under scanner for not taking action against the official during his earlier tenures in Chicago (the US) where he had also allegedly committed some "irregularities".
