Yediyurappa confident of BJP returning to power on its own

Bangalore, Oct 6 (UNI) Senior BJP leader B S Yediyurappa today vowed to lead his party to power in Karnataka on its own in the next Assembly elections.

Talking to newspersons at the airport soon after his arrival from New Delhi, he thanked the people of Karnataka for their co-operation during the last 20 months. '' The party had come out of the government following failure of coalition partner JD (S) to keep up its words''.

He advised the party workers to strive for the party's victory in the coming polls.

Earlier, Mr Yediyurappa, accompanied by Party Chief D V Sadananda Gowda and Ananth Kumar, MP were accorded a warm welcome by hundreds of party workers who had gathered at the airport.

Mr Yediyurappa said the BJP would meet tomorrow after which he would meet the Governor to submit a letter formally withdrawing support to JD(S).

Chennai, Oct 6 (UNI) Shalmali Gagare of Maharashtra emerged sole leader in the sixth round of the Canara Bank 24th National Sub-Junior Girls Chess Championship here today. Shalmali bagged 5.5 points. Half a point behind her are Devangi Patankar (Mah), Pon N Krithika and M Kushboo (TN), N L V Anusha and K Sai Nirupama (AP) and A Niji (Ker). In the boys section, as many as seven players - S Nitin, B Adhiban and S P Sethuraman (TN), Aditya Udeshi.....

Double poles for Saran Vikram and Ashwin Sundar

Chennai, Oct 6 (UNI) Amidst humid conditions and the championship tantalizingly poised in the premium Formula Rolon category all eyes were on the top three racers - Chennai lads Aditya Patel and Saran Vikram from team NK Racing, and Pune racer Rayomand Banajee from Team Prime Racing in the sixth round of the JK Tyre national racing championship here today. Saran Vikram achieved the fastest laps of 01:47:973 and 01:48:342 to take pole positions for Race 1 and Race 2.....

Ethiopia rebels back US pressure on government

NAIROBI, Oct 6 (Reuters) An Ethiopian rebel group applauded today that a bill passed by the US House of Representatives that would force their government to make democratic reforms or else lose security aid. The group, the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), are armed rebels fighting for greater autonomy in ethnically Oromo parts of the vast Horn of Africa nation.
